PDC Drag Bits, also named blade bits, feature Tungsten Carbide inserts on the blades. Designed for soft formations such as sand, clay, or soft rock, they are ideal for water wells, mining, geothermal, environmental, and exploration drilling. These bits are particularly useful for drilling pilot holes as they produce cuttings that are easiest to log. While normally 3-wing, we can manufacture 4 or 5-wing versions following your specifications.

Drilling drag bits offer the lowest cost per bit after PDC bits. These steel-bodied bits with tungsten carbide teeth outperform more expensive options when used properly. They are particularly popular for seismic drilling, blast hole drilling, and geothermal applications. For optimal performance, reduce rotational speed by 50% compared to tricone bits of the same size and similarly decrease weight on bit.

A drilling drag bit consists of a series of blades (typically three or four) that create a shearing action when rotated. Their simple design without moving parts makes them cost-effective, while enabling rapid penetration in soft formations like stiff clays and mudstones. Hole cleaning is achieved through air or water injection.
